Convicted baby-killer solicitor fights to prove her innocence

Sally Clark, an eminent lawyer, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of her two baby sons. All along, Mrs Clark has protested her innocence claiming both boys died of cot death. She gave birth to a third son before starting her jail sentence who is now being cared for by her husband. Mrs Clark continues to fight for the right to take her case to the Court of Human Rights in conjunction with family and supporters. This is her last resort since her application to appeal to the House of Lords was refused.

Her husband, Stephen - also a lawyer - is her staunchest supporter, saying,

‘We will not rest until Sally is free and back where she belongs - with me and our little boy. She has already lost so much.’

One thing she has not lost, however, much to her relief, is her status as a lawyer. An emotional appeal to a tribunal has resulted in her merely being suspended. According to her lawyer, John Batt, this is the first time a tribunal has not automatically struck off someone guilty of such a serious crime.

Mr Batt is at pains to point out, ’There is something horribly wrong with this case. These convictions are an affront to common sense‘. He went on to say that both medical and legal representatives have questioned the validity of the verdicts.
