Protection for children, peace of mind for parents

Shepherd Systems Ltd. has developed a product designed to prevent young children wandering - or being led - away frommonitored spaces like shopping malls, museums or theme parks.

The Zonetag(c) system works by giving the child a wristband reinforced with Kevlar, the material used in bullet-proof vests, which is locked onto their wrist by a uniquely numbered electronic tag that can only be removed by authorised personnel.

If the child attempts to leave the premises without the consent of their parent or guardian, the tag will set off an alarm that alerts trained security guards to the lost child or possible abduction.

The parent or guardian is given a ticket with an identification number that matches that on the childs wristband. The ticket is used to prevent unauthorised individuals trying to have the child's band removed.

The wristband, which is unique to the site, is given to the child to take home as a souvenir of the visit.

"Having a child abducted, or merely having them wander off, is every parent's nightmare, but we believe that we have come up with something that substantially improves children's safety in public spaces," says Shepherd Systems' David Waterhouse.

"This is the equivalent of an extra pair of eyes for parents enjoying a day out with their children."

The system is suitable for children between one and 12 years old.
