Sophie Graham - The inquisitive little girl

Sophie Graham, aged 8, was chosen from hundreds of hopefuls to take the part of the inquisitive little girl in the latest BT advert.

Her parents initially turned down the audition because Sophie was too busy, but a week later, having auditioned a whole host of other children, the casting agent rang again and persuaded them to bring her along. Sophie immediately hit it off with the advert director, Jake Scott and he offered her the part on the spot.

Her parents initially turned down the audition because Sophie was too busy, but a week later, having auditioned a whole host of other children, the casting agent rang again and persuaded them to bring her along. Sophie immediately hit it off with the advert director, Jake Scott and he offered her the part on the spot.

The advert was shot over two weeks in South Africa. Just before filming started, a more personal drama broke out for Sophie. She found that one of her front teeth was loose and as a consequence had to live on a diet of scrambled egg and other soft food to ensure that the tooth stayed in whilst the advert was made. Luckily, the tooth stayed put for the duration and eventually fell out the day after Sophie returned home. Sophie's keeping mum about how much money the tooth fairy left her though.

The tale of how Sophie's career was kick started is the stuff of dreams. She was discovered by an ex Steven Spielberg casting director. The lady was a regular customer of Sophie's dad Colin, a car mechanic. One day, Colin took Sophie along when he was returning the lady's car. She spotted Sophie's star quality and encouraged her parents to explore the possibilities of acting.

So, her parents rang Sylvia Young, principal of the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London and Sophie hasn't looked back. Since then, Sophie has taken part in a soon to be released Sci-Fi film, 'The Visitor', appeared in a Fairy Liquid advert and even had the enviable job of being a young Baby Spice in another TV advert.

Sophie had a great time filming the BT advert, in spite of her tooth and the fact that it was quite intimidating having to stand up in front of 4000 extras - though she remained unfazed until everyone started clapping.

Sophie made a real connection with Hugo Dumming, who is the man searching for his old school friends in the ad. Hugo plays in a steel band and is now teaching Sophie to play the steel drum.

Sophie also made a lasting impression on Jake Scott. Everytime that Sophie finished a shot, Jake wanted a couple of versions of the same thing, so he would shout "Let's have it again Sophie!" At the end of filming, Sophie took a photo of Jake, he asked her if it was okay and quick as a flash she replied "No, Let's have it again Jake!"
