Latest US school slaughter attributed to bullying
...shooting in a US school
Fifteen year old Charles Williams – was carrying out a revenge attack following an extensive period of bullying.
Yet again our papers and press reports have been filled with news of a mass shooting in a US school. The latest episode took place at Santana High School in Santee on the outskirts of San Diego where two teenagers were shot dead at point blank range, and thirteen other school children were injured.
In previous episodes, such as the shocking massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999, numbers of casualties have been much higher. However the chilling factor that has come to light in this particular incidence is that the perpetrator in question - fifteen year old Charles Williams – was carrying out a revenge attack following an extensive period of bullying.
Although the boy had been talking to friends about his plans to get even during the weekend before he carried out his threats, nobody took him seriously.
Bullying at school is still a big problem in the UK, with youngsters sometimes so desperate about their situations that they are driven to suicide The Santana episode is yet another reminder as to how seriously we should be taking our children’s concerns over this issue.
